In the best interests of your pet, we require a physical examination appointment with one of our doctors prior to scheduling procedures.
When your pet is scheduled for a procedure, our staff will review with you the basic steps of the process including:
- Any recommended pre-surgical testing, such as baseline laboratory work, is important to avoid surprises on surgery day. Having normal blood test results ensures there are no underlying issues that could lead to complications during surgery, like excessive bleeding due to low platelet counts or abnormal clotting. Additionally, if there is liver or kidney disease, it can influence the doctor’s choice of anesthetic drugs, helping to prevent potential complications and support a smoother recovery.
- Any fasting instructions before surgery. Most procedures will require you to withhold food and water for a specific amount of time prior to surgery. Our staff will provide you with the detailed recommendations.
- What procedures are to be done on the day of surgery. From initial intake to sedation and general anesthesia, anesthesia monitoring, the procedure, and recovery, the staff will walk you through what will happen with your pet once you leave the hospital.
- All discharge and aftercare instructions for your pet. Some patients may be able to go home the same day as their procedure, whereas others may need an overnight stay or referral to a 24-hour care facility. The veterinary team will advise you as to what is best for your pet and also discuss aftercare for your companion and any rechecks needed.
