What types of pets do you treat?
We happily treat dogs, cats, rabbits, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets, snakes, iguanas, other lizards, and bees!
Do you accept walk-ins?
No- Grayslake Animal Hospital is by appointment only.
Do you and your pet have a preferred doctor? Or perhaps your pet feels more comfortable with a female or male vet? Our reception team will do their best to accommodate all requests. If you’re a new client, please call us during business hours at 847-223-8612. Returning clients can request an appointment by phone or through the PetDesk app.
We make every effort to see all of our clients on time. While we have plans in place for emergencies, there may still be occasions when unexpected delays occur. If that happens, we’ll do our best to keep you updated on the delay and work to get back on track as quickly as possible.
What types of payment do you accept?
In order to maintain our high standard of service, we require that payment is made at the time services are rendered. We provide estimates for all surgeries and hospitalizations. If you have not received an estimate, you are welcome to request one at any time for your expected charges.

Pet Insurance
Grayslake Animal Hospital does not submit insurance claims or receive payments directly from insurance companies. Pet owners are responsible for paying their bill in full at the time of service and filing their own claims. We are happy to provide any itemized invoices, diagnoses, or doctor/medical notes necessary to help assist with claims should the pet insurer request further documentation.

How do I refill my pet’s medications?
In order to prescribe medications or veterinary diets, an annual exam is required to maintain an active doctor-client-patient relationship. Certain medications may necessitate more frequent exams and/or lab tests. All medication refills must be approved by a doctor, even if they are regularly prescribed. Please allow 24-48 hours for your refill request to be processed.
Refills not picked up within three weeks of ordering will be returned to stock.
How often should my pet have an exam?
Grayslake Animal Hospital recommends annual visits for most healthy adult pets. These visits include a physical examination by our veterinarians, along with vaccinations, parasite screenings, preventive medications, and any necessary lab tests.
For puppies and kittens, more frequent visits are needed during their first year to complete their vaccine series, address parasite treatments, and establish proper preventive care. Senior pets should also have more frequent check-ups to detect potential issues early, with most veterinarians advising biannual visits. For pets with medical conditions, the veterinarian will determine the appropriate follow-up schedule based on each individual case.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, we ask that you give us at least 24 hours’ notice. A fee will be charged if you fail to show up without calling first.
